Fields: Add/Edit Discovery Search Target

You can add or edit search targets to make the data that is being extracted and indexed from those search sources and sites available for patrons to search. When you set up a search target, you define the search sources that are associated with this target. Once you have created a Discovery search target, you can then assign that target to one or more search profiles—making the data from the Discovery search source available to patrons to search.

Search Configuration > Discovery Search Targets > Add Discovery Search Target

Search Configuration > Discovery Search Targets > Edit

Discovery Search Target Name

Displays the name of the search target that you are editing. If you are adding a search target, this information does not appear.

Code

Specifies a unique code for the Discovery search target (up to 30 characters). This code is used to identify the search target on the Discovery Search Targets page and on any other pages that display the search target code.

Codes are displayed in all upper case letters. If you enter lower case alphanumeric characters for the code, the software automatically converts them to upper case when the code is displayed. The Code cannot include spaces. If you enter a space, Portfolio will display an error message when you save the settings.

Note: This value must be unique. If you enter a code that is already being used elsewhere on the system and try to save the profile, the software displays an error message indicating that the value must be unique, and informing you that the value you entered is already being used for another profile.

Name

Specifies the system name of the Discovery search target (up to 80 characters) for the specified language. This name is used to identify the search target on the Discovery Search Targets page and on any other pages in the Admin console that display the search target name.

For this field, you can also specify an alternate name for a specific language. Choose the language from the drop-down list of supported languages in the Admin console, then enter the localized name in the field.

Note: If your web browser is configured to use a display language that is not supported by Portfolio and you have chosen to display the Admin console in a language other than the default language (en_US), the language that displays in the drop-down list of supported languages defaults to US English.

If a localized name already exists for a specific language, the software displays that language name differently in the drop-down list. When you enter a localized name for a specific language, the language name appears with a “++” suffix. If you clear the localized name for a specific language, the software displays the language name without the different formatting.

Description

Specifies a text description of this Discovery search target (up to 255 characters).

Note: This field is optional.

Available

Displays a list of all the available search sources that are associated with this search target. This list will differ based on the search sources that you have previously set up. For more information about setting up search sources, see Managing Discovery search sources.

Selected

Specifies the search sources that this search target will use to search against and the order in which Portfolio should search against the sources.

You must select at least one Discovery search source when creating a new Discovery search target. If no search sources are selected for the search target, a message displays when you click OK that at least one Discovery search source must be selected.

Important: You can select a maximum of 10 search sources per search target.

To add, remove, or reorder search sources in the list, choose the search source and then use these buttons:

Option Description

Select

Moves the selected search source from the Available list to the Selected list.

Remove

Removes the selected search source from the Selected list and returns it to the Available list.

Move Up

Moves the selected search source up one position in the Selected list.

Move Down

Moves the selected search source down one position in the Selected list.

Note: These buttons are context-sensitive based on which search source(s) you choose. For example, if you select a search source from the Available list, the Remove, Move Up, and Move Down options are disabled because those commands are not available for available search sources. If you select a search source from the Selected list, the Remove, Move Up, and Move Down options are enabled because those commands are available for selected search sources.
